All my life I have been a creator; drawings, paintings, brochures, logos, knitting, quilts. For me, it's all intertwined; nature, science, design, pictures, drawings, texture, life. Colors, type and shape, textures, and bringing elements together to form a whole.

I have a degree in Art from Towson State University, 1973. My professional career was as a graphic designer, from 1974-2013. I was a designer for two newspapers, three ad agencies, a world respected science museum, several publishers, and a major university. I started doing paste-up and marking type, and now am highly skilled in digital design, Adobe products and electronic media. During my working years I also maintained an ongoing freelance business, serving many clients as a designer, writer and illustrator. Throughout this time I continued to paint and draw, took classes, joined arts organizations and exhibited my work.

In recent years, I have been able to paint more, finding it enormously creative and satisfying. My personal preference is watercolor on high quality, stretched paper. I love the exactness and brush control with watercolor! While I have painted in acrylic and oil, in my studio, in classes and Plein Air, my preference is watercolor. Amending this a bit… I am painting more on canvas, using luscious acrylic paint.

I hope you enjoy these images.. I try to add new work as it happens. I average 2-3 paintings/week, (some weeks are better than others!) so there is always a new painting to share. I believe my work is consistent in color use and technique, yet evolving in subject and range. I try to challenge myself to lean towards the unknown, into uncharted territory, but often times I return to the familiar. Lately in my acrylic, I have been painting outdoors, at the scene, then returning to the studio for final touches, or a new painting based on the outdoor “sketch”.

I like my finished paintings and feel a sense of pride, but for me, it’s all about the doing, the painting, the experience of watching it emerge, as if on its own. Sometimes I feel I am but a conduit, and if I listen, watch, consider, the painting tells me where to go, what to emphasize, what color to select next.
